Where life happens

If the planets are what is happening and the signs describe how it happens, the houses tell you where in your life you feel it. The wheel is divided into 12 segments, each governing a specific area of human experience — from the most personal (your body, your home) to the most collective (your career, your legacy, the hidden life of the unconscious).

Houses are calculated from your exact birth time and location. The Ascendant — the degree of the zodiac rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth — defines the cusp of the First House. From there, the remaining 11 houses follow in order around the wheel.

This is why birth time matters. Without it, house positions cannot be calculated. Two people born on the same day in the same city but four hours apart can have completely different house placements — even if their planetary positions are nearly identical.

“The houses are where astrology stops being abstract. They put the planets in a room — and suddenly you can see exactly which part of your life is being affected.”
