Its two brightest stars, Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali, translate roughly from Arabic as the southern and northern claws — because Libra was once considered part of Scorpius, its stars the scorpion's claws. The Romans separated it into its own constellation to honour Julius Caesar. Libra is the only zodiac constellation that was added to the sky by human decision rather than ancient tradition.
